The Birth of Green Desert
Every great journey begins with a single seed of hope.
The story of Green Desert Agritourism Park began with a simple dream—to transform an ordinary piece of land into a place where nature could educate, inspire, and bring people closer to God’s wonderful creation. After retiring from a fulfilling career in public service, I found myself with the opportunity to pursue a lifelong passion that had quietly grown in my heart through the years.
My fascination with cacti and succulents started as a personal hobby. I was captivated by their remarkable beauty, diversity, and resilience. These extraordinary plants thrive in some of the harshest environments on earth, yet they continue to flourish with grace and strength. They reminded me that life’s greatest beauty often emerges through patience, perseverance, and faith.
What began as a small private collection gradually expanded into a garden filled with thousands of plants representing countless species from around the world. As more visitors came to admire the collection, I realized that Green Desert could become more than just a garden—it could become a place of learning, discovery, and inspiration.
With that vision, Green Desert Agritourism Park was born.
From the very beginning, my goal was not simply to grow beautiful plants, but to create meaningful experiences. Every pathway, greenhouse, landscape, and collection was designed to encourage visitors to slow down, appreciate the wonders of nature, and recognize the incredible diversity of God’s creation.
As the garden continued to grow, another dream emerged—the creation of the Green Desert Botanical Library. The Botanical Library became an extension of the garden’s educational mission, providing reliable botanical information, practical growing guides, and inspiring stories that promote conservation and a deeper appreciation for the living world.
Today, Green Desert continues to grow with the same vision that inspired its beginning: to be a place where nature, education, innovation, and inspiration come together, cultivating curiosity, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the living world.
